Cleaning Grave Markers at Union Cemetery

In May 2018, several Guilford Chapter members met with Norma Fiedler of the New France Chapter to learn correct procedures to clean grave markers without damaging them. The Union Cemetery in Rockford IL gave permission to the Guilford Chapter to clean markers that were dirty and covered with moss. Guilford Chapter members donated money to purchase the recommended cleaning product, then rolled up their sleeves and got to work. Chapter members met to clean markers twice in 2019, and continued the project through the pandemic, meeting in September 2020 and twice in 2021. To date, members have cleaned 15 markers. It’s hard work but members truly enjoy the camaraderie and the results! |
